How To Make Your Home Smell Great
Posted on Friday, April 24th, 2020
Having a clean home is one of life’s simplest pleasures. What’s even better than a spotless house? Well nothing, but a house that smells great all day long is a close second.
There’s only so far an air-freshener can go, sometimes there are things in your home you might not even realise that are preventing it from smelling fresh!
We’ve put together some little tips and tricks to keep your home smelling great throughout the day.
Clean Up Your Rubbish
Okay, so this one is a little obvious. However, you should be going beyond just taking the trash out on time! Don’t neglect details like scrubbing your rubbish bins clean. Giving the interior of your bins a wipe over is an important part of a sweet-smelling interior. Wash out your bins with warm soapy water at least once a fortnight to keep everything fresh, and funky smells at bay.
Clean Carpets And Rugs
Your carpet and rugs can hold onto smells for a long time, especially if you have messy kids or pets. Making sure you deodorise your carpets will rid your home of any hidden odours trapped inside the fabric. Sprinkle your carpet with baking soda, or a carpet cleaning product and leave it to sit for a few hours before vacuuming. Pay extra special attention to any areas that have become victims of spillage, muddy shoes, or pet disasters!
Scented Candles
Candles are a no-brainer! Pick a signature scent for your living areas and disperse them accordingly. Don’t forget to include scents in your kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms to make your whole house smell heavenly! We love citrus scents for the kitchen and relaxing vanilla or lavender for bedrooms.
Indoor Plants
Indoor plants are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also boost the levels of oxygen in your home and freshen the air. The benefits don’t stop there! Your indoor plants will also absorb toxins, increase humidity, and purify the air.
If you’re after a plant that gives off a particularly nice smell we recommend scented geraniums, jasmine, or citrus plants!
Deal With Moisture
Dealing with moisture, especially in the bathroom, is essential in a sweet-smelling home.
Open windows and let any damp areas air out. If you have a dedicated room for your pet you must allow fresh air in to move away damp and stale smells.
Remember fresh air and a nice breeze are your friends!
Clean The Fridge
Probably no surprises here but the fridge is a hot spot for unwanted smells. Make sure you keep it clean and regularly throw out any spoiled food. Saving that old casserole might make a good science experiment, but will definitely not be doing your home any favours! To really eliminate any odours use vinegar as a neutraliser by simply putting some on a paper towel and placing it in a bowl in the back of your fridge.
Cook Something
Cook! This is a real win-win. Make sure you avoid anything heavy and greasy (like garlic and bacon!) if making your home smell nice is your goal. Try cooking a fresh banana bread loaf, or a sweet batch of mulled wine (filled with cinnamon sticks!) to make your whole house smells good enough to eat. The best part is you get a sweet treat at the end of your efforts!
