How To Get Rid Of Pet Fur From Your Home
Posted on Thursday, July 9th, 2020
We all love our pets, but sometimes getting their fur out of your furniture and carpet can be an absolute nightmare.
We know the pain that comes from finding fine hair all over your living space, wreaking havoc on hayfever, allergies, and just the overall cleanliness of your home.
Never fear, you don’t have to resort to shaving Fido, or covering your furniture with plastic to maintain a fur-free environment.
We’ve put together some tips and tricks that’ll help you effortlessly get rid of your pet hair without driving yourself mad!
Removing Pet Fur From Your Furniture
Is your Netflix marathon being ruined by hairballs and allergies? Try removing fur from your furniture with these household items.
- Rubber Gloves – Rubber gloves could be the key to getting all that extra fur off your couch. Put on your pair of gloves and rub your hand in one direction, you’ll have a handful of fur in no time.
- Dry Sponge – You can do the same as above but with a sponge! To make it extra efficient slightly dampen the sponge and you’ll be amazed by how much fur it collects (and how much fur your pet is shedding!).
- Microfibre Cloth – It might be worth investing in a microfibre cloth. Not only is it quick and easy, but the hair also sticks to the fibres so it’s easier to get rid of.
- Window Squeegee – If you’re vacuuming regularly but still not getting all the fur out of your carpet, try using a window squeegee. Use a squeegee to move back and forth, going both directions over the carpet, loosening any stubborn layers on hair that is stuck in the fibres. The rubber of the squeegee will loosen in a way that your vacuum won’t, making it a perfect last line of defence.
- Roll Of Tape – This is a cheap and incredibly efficient trick! Simply put some tape on the surface you want to de-fur and rip it off. This works especially well on clothing, furniture, or blankets that your pet has left a mess on.
- Anti-Static Spray – Using an anti-static spray can get rid of hair relatively easily on wooden surfaces. Make sure you use a soft piece of cloth with the spray, this will keep the fur on the cloth so it won’t reattach itself to your furniture.
Bonus Tips
- Make sure you’re washing and brushing your pets regularly! This will help keep their shedding at a minimum and will stop them from getting extra fur over your couches, carpets and blankets.
- It might also be worthwhile in investing in a spare blanket or rug to cover your pets sleeping spot. This will keep them cosy while minimising your cleaning efforts.
- A humidifier might also help with your fur shedding problem. A humidifier works to keep your pets skin hydrated, which can keep them healthy, and slow down the fur loss process.
